I owned a home in beautiful Scottsdale for a few years but realized that I was not able to spend enough time to make it worthwhile to keep. I had been involved in a number of real estate deals in Canada and had pretty good understanding of our process but was aware that the U.S. does handle the paperwork quite differently. As I had not been impressed with the REALTOR® that sold me my home, reasons noted below: 1- no effort to provide proper comparatives 2- no effort to show other communities or options - this is the best and you should focus here 3- poor follow up with the sellers to communicate questions clearly 4- end of the deal I was unable to do walk thru for possession, and she nicely said she would of 4 10 do it. There was no list of deficiencies and the comments were, they are good builders they will take care of you. End of relationship. No follow up like, “did things work out, are you happy with your home,” or even “would you refer me?” Onto selling my unit. I decided to ask the people that I had met in Phoenix for their referrals of REALTORS® and I held a cocktail party to meet them all at the same time. Some refused as they are better than that. Others came and worked to corner me to sell hard and get rid of the competition, and some came and enjoyed the drinks and food and followed up with some information to assist me to choose them. I was not interested in a discount per say, I was interested in who would work hard, who would be a good communicator, who I could trust with my home as I was not spending any real time in Scottsdale and had very nice vintage furniture that I didn’t want damaged. Also who would assist me in the additional paperwork that comes with a foreign owner. I met the couple, Aaron and Michael, at my home/cocktail party and enjoyed their candid conversations, the openness of what they felt confident about and not - that this was a high-end home that they had not sold in this range before. But their appreciation and understanding of location, decorating, value and floor plans and views swayed me to hire them. They did work hard, they did communicate well, they were honest and innovative in selling my home. At the time there were quite a few units that were for sale and it was a lot of work to get the price I wanted and a fair deal for everyone. They also assisted me in the selling of some of my furniture as well as moving the balance to Canada. They went the extra mile and though there was a learning curve on paperwork and some minor things, I would full heartedly recommend them to future buyer /sellers.
